I currently offer Rosen Method Movement classes and Acupressure Self-Help classes at several locations in the South Bay. Here's a summary of days and locations. Click on the links for details.
Movement Classes
Rosen Method Movement: Gentle, yet powerful movement and dance designed to lubricate all the joints in the body. Classes help you stay active and healthy, improve balance and coordination, and cope more effectively with stress. Developed by an innovative physical therapist as a way to prevent difficulties before they arise, each class follows a sequence that prepares the body to dance across the floor. Low-impact, both energizing and meditative, and definitely fun.

Acupressure Self-Help
My acupressure classes are a combination of the practical wisdom of Traditional Chinese Medicine and the powerful practice of Jin Shin Jyutsu self-help. My philosophy: We are healthy when our yin and yang energies are balanced and our chi is flowing smoothly throughout the entire body. The intention of acupressure is to guide the body back into balance and flow -- the BalanceFlow principle. This is a holistic practice that restores health to the whole person -- body, mind, and spirit. It is much more than simply a means to eliminate symptoms.

Movement Classes
There will be a new series of my movement class through Santa Clara Adult Education in the summer quarter: Thursdays from 5:30 to 6:30 PM. Classes begin on May 22 and run for 10 weeks. Now that I'm a California credentialed teacher, the price for older adults (age 55+) is $35 for the series. You can register by phone at 408-423-3555. The class meets at Wilson High School (Santa Clara Adult Educuation) on Benton Street (near Scott), room 50. Click here for more information about this class.
Kaiser Permanente, Homestead Campus (Santa Clara/Sunnyvale/Cupertino)
A new six-week class starts at Kaiser on Wednesday, May 28, 2008. The class meets from 10:00 to 11:00 AM. This class runs until July 2, followed by another series of six classes. You don't need to be a Kaiser member to take this class, although it costs less ($45 for members/$65 for non-members). Kaiser volunteers can take classes for half price. When registering for the class (408-851-3800), be sure to ask for the Gentle Exercise for Adults class. The classroom is in a Kaiser building on the corner of Homestead and Tantau, which is on the border of Santa Clara, Cupertino, and Sunnyvale. Click here for more information about this class.
Mountain View Senior Center in Mountain VIew
The Mountain View class is open to everyone, regardless of age, though the cost of the class is reduced for older adults. The class meets on Tuesdays from 5:30 to 6:30 in the beautiful new Mountain View Senior Center. The current class continues until May 20, and the next series of classes starts on June 17, 2008. The cost is only $20 for those age 55+, $84 for all others. The name of the class is Flowing Movement, the Rosen Method, and it's listed in the Music and Dance section of the Mountain View/Los Altos Adult Education catalog. My classes are very music intensive, and we do dance across the floor in every class. You can call 650-940-1333 to register. The Senior Center is located at 266 Escuela Avenue, near California Avenue. Click here for more information.
Elephant Pharmacy in Los Altos
I teach free movement classes at the new Elephant Pharmacy in Los Altos, located on El Camino just north of the San Antonio shopping center in Mountain View. If you haven't yet discovered Elephant Pharmacy, you really should check it out. It's a great store, and all their classes are free of charge. No advanced registration is required to attend a class. My next free class is on Saturday, May 10, at 1:00 PM. Click here for more information. And here's a link to the complete event calendar for the Los Altos store.
Acupressure Self-Help
Acupressure Self-Help at Kaiser in Santa Clara
I teach most of the information found on my Acupressure Self-Help page in monthly classes at Kaiser Permanente. Classes are on Monday nights, from 7:00 to 9:00 PM. Students receive a Thera CaneŽ as part of the registration fee, and we learn a full-body Shiatsu massage using the Thera Cane. The class is held in the new Kaiser complex at the corner of Homestead and Lawrence. The cost is $50 for Kaiser members, $75 for non-members (reduced price for Kaiser employees). Click here for the schedule of classes.
This year I'm also offering an Acupressure Refresher class for students who have taken my Acupressure Self-Help class. In addition to reviewing the acupressure skills you learned in the basics class (how to hold points, where to hold points), we will learn new acupressure self-help practices for specific parts of the body (especially the neck, back, and shoulders). The emphasis will be on learning simple, daily routines that restore, improve, and maintain your health.
I'm preparing a CD that will guide you in your daily practice and will keep you motivated. A daily acupressure routine doesn't need to take more of your time. The trick is to integrate acupressure self-help into the activities that already fill your day.
The Refresher class will be held on Thursday evenings, from 7:15 to 9:00 PM. You can call the Kaiser Health Education Center for more information or to register (408-851-3800). The cost of the Refresher class is $30 for members/$40 non-members. Click here for the schedules of both classes.
Acupressure Self-Help Class in Santa Clara
I'll be offering another Acupressure Self-Help class through Santa Clara Adult Education in the Summer quarter. It will be on Wednesday evenings from 7:45 to 9:00. The class starts on Wednesday May 21 and runs for 10 weeks. The cost is $35 for older adults (age 55+), $50 for all others. You can register by calling 408-423-3555. The title of the class is Acupressure Self-Help and Movement for the Joints.
After we learn the basics of acupressure (how to hold points, where to hold points), there will be time to learn self-help practices for specific parts of the body, including practices to help with arthritis. The emphasis will be on learning simple, daily routines that restore, improve, and maintain your health. We'll spend time at the end of each class mobilizing the joints. Chinese medicine teaches that pain is stuck energy and that energy tends to get stuck in the joints. By keeping the joints flexible, we can reduce pain and improve energy flow.
